School Issues: Effective teaching of students with Autism in the classroom.
Throughout the year Autism Partnership runs a one-day workshop for school staff (teachers, integration aides, special needs/student welfare coordinators).
The workshop is designed to meet the following objectives:
• Provide participants with information about Autism Spectrum Disorders
• Give participants an understanding of how to assess and change behaviour
• Familiarise participants with the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis
• Allow opportunities to practise applying your knowledge in small group activities
• Raise some of the considerations surrounding working with ASD students in the classroom
School Professional Development Sessions.
Autism Partnership can send staff to your school to run professional development sessions for teachers,
integration staff and special needs/student welfare coordinators. The content of these two hour sessions is tailored
to the individual schools’ needs, in order to provide your staff with discussion of the specific issues that arise in
your school. Content often covers knowledge of autism, how to maximise learning, developing social skills and behaviour management.
